Shaolin Kenpo is widely-recognized as an effective self-defense art while at the same time honoring a long-standing martial arts tradition. It is among the most popular martial arts on the west coast. Students begin by learning Kenpo techniques and forms, practicing skills with instructors and each other. Shaolin Kenpo trains foundation, speed, power and accuracy through conditioning drills, fluid sets and forms, and partner exercises. Class moves through a series of elements designed to build strength, balance and mental acuity. Studying a martial art also establishes personal safety and stress management skills.

This class caters to adult women ready to take on a new challenge physically, mentally and spiritually. Every aspect of Shaolin Kenpo Karate is taught, along with Qigong and meditation elements that embody a well-rounded martial art.   

Women may chose to enter the Black Belt track in this class. Achieving Black Belt requires dedication, patience, and practice. Many women experience deeply personal change while training for a Black Belt. Not only does it promote physical change, it can change thought processes, coping mechanisms and self-perception. Women who choose the Black Belt are interested in the stage presentation, as much as the defense aspect of the art.

Private sessions and video training are available to students enrolled in this class.

New students are welcome to join this Kenpo class at any time. Movements are broken down into easy-to-follow segments, and the guided practice will provide all the cues you need to progress. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.

COVID-19 precautions: 

Saint Paul Ballet has installed state-of-the-art HVAC which circulates all of the air in the studio 5 times per hour. However, Shaolin Kenpo and Qigong is an exercise of deep breath work, high intensity training and meditation. The deeper your breath, the more you benefit. Additionally, students work closely with partners, and social distancing is generally not possible. That's why we require all participants to be vaccinated.
